raymond gieringer
visual effects supervisor
I have been a Visual Effects Supervisor, both independently and in conjunction with VFX vendors on numerous projects that include Don’t Look Up (2021), Vice (2018), Immortals (2011) and the Oscar winning Chicago (2003). My key role is to assist the Director in designing “Feature Level” effects specific to their vision for the film. At the same time, I manage a department of highly sophisticated Visual Effects professionals.
My role as a VFX Supervisor is diverse. Ideally, it begins in the early stages of pre-production. I work closely with the Director, Producers, and VFX vendors to produce comprehensive script breakdowns and accurate estimates for Visual Effects Production. Research and Development is essential to all projects. I ensure that any and all key 2D and 3D effects that can be monetized are developed in advance so that production is as informed as possible going into the shoot. At the same time, I ensure that the VFX team has the right software, hardware and talent base to deliver feature-level work.
Working hand in hand with first and second units during principal photography, my role as On Set Supervisor requires that I attend filming to oversee VFX capture, ensuring that footage is shot in a way conducive to VFX production. During post-production, I supervise and mentor VFX artists and other team members, providing guidance and feedback throughout the process. I manage the integration of live action photography with 2D & 3D elements so final that shots meet both creative and technical standards. Ultimately it is my responsibility to collaborate with the Director, Studio, and Producers to facilitate clear communication, accurate costs, and fair and realistic turnarounds, all with the end goal of successfully delivering the vision for the project and one deserving of global recognition.
